Zara Adams: The Answer to the Desi Bond Girl

While we have the countless rumours of Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, and Shilpa Shetty(post Big Brother of course) being poised to be the first desi Bond girl, they never seem to pan out. However, it appears that we're finally getting a desi Bond girl. Here's where we throw confetti celebrating us spicy brown people.

Zara Adams is apparently a British actress who is half Iranian and half Pakistani and is supposed to be a Bond girl in the next movie. To me she's gorgeous and, maybe I'm biased after Shilpa's numerous chicken-related dramas in Big Brother but I really can't think of a Bollywood actress who would suit the role. I don't know much about Zara Adams, but she really screams Bond girl glamour to me.

And to keep it beauty and style related, apparently Archana Kocchar will be designing her wardrobe, making it the first time a desi designer has produced the western wear for the Bond movies. As soon as the movie trailers come out I will do a breakdown of her make-up.

What do you think?

Lara Dutta's Style

I found a little blurb on indiafm where Lara Dutta talks about her style and decided to post it. I generally always like her make-up as she seems to know what looks good on her and what doesn't. The pic of Lara at the IIFA awards ceremony a while ago has nothing to do with the blurb but I just like the make-up and overall look there.

Party wear: “My dictum is - less is more. When in doubt, I always prefer under dressing. I stick to browns and blacks,” Lara reveals.

Style quotient: “I feel style is very personal, it is what suits you and keeps you comfortable. My style is totally classic - I go for smart cuts and fits,” she smiles.

Accessories: “As you can see, I subscribe to minimalism. My best accessory is a nice bag and a neat pair of shoes to match,” adds the style diva.

Cosmetics: “I favour the nude look when it comes to make-up. Of all the cosmetics, lip balm or a lip tint is a must-have for me. I won’t leave home without it,” declares Dutta.

Not Christmassy: “The biggest fashion faux paus for me is to dress up like a X’mas tree. You know, that grunge look with loads of rings, chains and bracelets! I am absolutely horrified by bling,” she admits.

Some Gorgeous Dresses Worn by Kangana Ranaut in Femina Magazine

I found some scans of Kangana Ranaut wearing some very pretty dresses in a Femina issue that appeared a while back. Here they are with my commentary (I really can't shut up it seems).

Dress 1:

I am ambivalent about this Moschino dress she is wearing. Maybe it's the styling or maybe it's the pose but it looks a bit prom-ish too me.

Dress 2:

I know I ranted about the Gauri and Nainika dress Bipasha wore during LIFW but this creation of theirs is gorgeous. The colour and the flow of the dress are so flattering and flirty. Oh my, did I just compliment someone?

Dress 3:

This Nalanda Bhandari creation is pretty enough but it doesn't really stand out to me. Blame it on the red riding hood theme of the pic if you will, but it doesn't do any favours for the dress.

Dress 4:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this BombayElectic dress does nothing for Kangana's figure. She's a very tiny girl and this dress does unflattering and widening things to her hips.

Dress 5:

This is another Gauri and Nainika creation which does not come close to rivaling the yellow dress. It's not bad, it's just not earth shattering.

How Cool Is This? Jean Paul Gaultier Visited the Sets of "Race"

I was browsing around and found this little blurb on www.indiafm.com. I thought it was quite nice of Gaultier to visit the sets.

"Race comes from the stable of Abbas-Mustan and is obviously expected to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller. Even though it’s being headed for a release later this year, it has started creating ripples all over. Added to its tight and sleek plot, the icing on the top was the visit on the sets by international designer and fashion guru Jean Paul Gaultier, who was in Mumbai recently. On his insistence, a meeting was arranged to meet up with Pataudi Jr, at the Yash Raj Studios to ‘witness’ an item number of the film that as being picturised on Saif along with Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif. News has it that Gautier was so tad impressed with the progress of the song that he told the directors not to call for a break."

Bollywood at Willis India Fashion Week

I'm always bashing Bollywood fashion is seems, but now that the Willis India Fashion Week 2008 has been wrapped up (for over a week), I figured let's spotlight that. Let me know what you think of the gowns and whether I'm completely insane.

Katrina Kaif walked for Ashish Soni and Anamika Khanna.

As always I seem to love her hair, which here is gorgeously understated, simple, but effectively elegant and doesn't detract from her intricate dress or her make-up. As for her gown, I think it's the strongest, best executed one that I'm posting about.

Bipasha Basu walked for Gauri&Nainika's collection.

Not too sure about the gown since the black strap seem to jar the whole ensemble. In fact, it reminds me of one of my backpacks that had a single diagonal strap that went across at the front.

Soha Khan walked for Manav Gangwani.

She seems to carry off the make-up and hair beautifully. I don't particularly like this frock either as it seems a bit too medieval-ish. All I can think of when I see this picture is what kind of a catty comment Michael Kors would have come up with on Project Runway had he been shown this.

Sophia walked the ramp for Manav Gangwani too.

She seemed to be more confident in her gown than Soha. Although my verdict is still out on this one.

Celina Jaitley walked for Khushali Kumar.

Let me start off by saying I love Celina's make-up here. It's a lot less over the top than usual and it actually brings out her beauty. The bottom half of her dress is flowy and pretty but the top half seems ill-fitting Celina and the skirt.

Oh Bipasha... Words Cannot Express My Horror

I named this picture whatwasshethinking.jpg on my computer but I should have named it whydoesyourstylisthateyou.jpg or whyisyourproducerlettingyourstylistsmokecrack.jpg. I know it's a lot to read but give it a try. You will find the names accurately descriptive for Bipasha's look in her movie Race.

First of all, why does she have the Nicole Ritchie hair extensions circa "The Simple Life" episode 1? Are Bipasha and her stylist trying to channel the League of Skanks? That too on Purpose? Or maybe I have it all wrong and they're trying to go with the really long hair some anime characters have (I know this by virtue of my anime obsessed brother). The hair's not the worst part of my rant so restrain your anger towards me if you disagree. There's a lot more to hate me for.

Let's talk about the outfit. Is it the skirt that has me foaming at the mouth from apoplexy or is it the heinous jean jacket tied right below the chest area to highlight/show off the results from Bipasha's reported plastic surgery? Or is it the boots that are potentially very cute but here dot the i's and cross the t's on this skankerrific ensemble? I have so many questions every time I see this photo. So much so that I am going to ponder about them tonight while gazing at the stars and maniacally screaming at the empty sky asking the powers that be just one question: "WHY?" I'll let you know if I ever get an answer for why this outfit ever had to exist.

I Can't Stop Laughing Long Enough to Think of a Decent Title for This Post

Since I added a Bollywood and Style section a while back, I feel I can drag this unfortunate picture through the mud. It's not necessarily the make-up or the hair that bugs me In fact, when I'm in a kinder, more accepting mood I would have even compliment the blush (which almost leads me to say a prayer of thanks that there's only one pair of cheeks visible), nude lips, and Kohl rimmed eyes. So what am I complaining about, right?

Take a step back from your monitor, and look at the styling of the clothes. I think the blouse is actually very pretty and would look great with a nice pair of pants. It's the "shorts-will-do-fine-for-this-look-at-me-I'm-so-hot-na?" look where a decent pair of pants or a nice skirt are out of the question! Eureka we have it! Pants! Pants, people, that's what's wrong with this look. I understand she's going for the sexy look, but the look is so incomplete and unrefined looking by wearing a pair of very short shorts to this look. Which is where I come to my point: sexy does not have to equal badly styled.

Now that the style quotient has been explained away, I'd like to concentrate briefly on the pose. I have not been able to stop laughing from the instant I started writing this post. I have verified that this isn't an overly explanatory/instructional ad for those suffering from constipation or an ad for a laxative company. Badly styled and very badly posed ruins the gorgeous make-up and pretty blouse. And as a final note, I still can't stop laughing dammit!

Bollywood and Fashion. Some Great Finds

As you might have guessed, my sleeping schedule is so messed up right now that you can rename me as Vampira, a.k.a. she-who-never-sleeps-until-dawn-and-is-thirsty-for-make-up. I know I'm trying to make light of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I sprout fangs soon and then I'll be in a lot of trouble. Until then, however, I have a new feature to add. Some style/fashion finds I can find on bollywood. Let me know what you think of this new feature. If it's a no-no, I will axe this feature. I also promise you that I will have a few tutorials, breakdowns, etc up by this weekend.

I know the current craze in Bollywood is to show off one's handbags (I'm sure you've seen the pics of stars with huge sunglasses and the logos on their handbags blinding the camera lens), but I kind of liked this feature I found.
